DRESSING TABLE

EPHEMERA

Ephemera is a dressing table composed of elements from different periods, forms and uses, brought together without erasing their origin. At its center is a late nineteenth-century pharmacy counter in fir wood, found through an antique dealer in the Modenese Apennines. He invited me to his home to help with the restoration. He prepared bread and salami and kept repeating: “all this work on such an old, damaged counter, signorina, it isn’t worth it.” It was.

The large flat mirror from the 1960s and the small convex deforming mirror generate two different self-images: one wide, clear and defined; the other small, distorted and almost liquefied.
They do not oppose each other, but coexist as parts of the same reflection.

Sold. Ephemera currently lives in Portugal.
