MANOTECA
edited by LOGOS
A monograph published by Logos Edizioni. Sixty pages of objects, thoughts and stories. The work of Manoteca told from the inside.
An excerpt:
Signor Luigi is almost eighty years old. He lives in a large country house on the hills outside Modena and has collected objects all his life. His home is like a museum, but everything is for sale. In each room he stores in an orderly and almost maniacal way just one single kind of object: there’s the room of the cardboard suitcases, the room of the tin boxes, of the chandeliers, of the crystal glasses… Outside, beneath a huge tent, a whole series of screens made up of objects forms the perfect walls of a labyrinth. No one knows what is inside those walls. You might find absolutely anything. All conversation is in Modenese dialect, all prices are in Italian Lire (2000 Lire = 1 Euro). If you want to make an appointment you can ring between 1 and 1.30 p.m. If you ring at the wrong time, try again the day after.
One day I visited the room of the coloured wooden boxes. I chose about half a dozen of them. I placed them on the ground and Box Sir was born.
